Kashmir Photo Exhibition

In November 2005, I organised a small photo exhibition to raise some money for the victims of the Kashmir earthquake. Selling prints and sets of postcards of the photos I took when I was in Kashmir, I raised about 100,000 yen (about AU$1,200) and even managaed to get my 5 minutes of fame with my ugly mug on the TV once and in the newspaper twice.

I still have plenty of the postcard sets left too. If you'd like a set, just send a little donation accross to the UNICEF appeal (say $10 or so), let me know your address, and I'll mail a set of 5 postcards to you.

The promotional blurb was in Japanese, but ran something like this:

the kashmiri people say that kashmir is paradise. after only one week among her high green valleys and gracious people, i could see why. kashmir is enchanting. it is the kind of place that lingers in your dreams long after you have gone.

but for all her beauty, kashmir is a troubled land: decades of fighting have left deep scars. and now the huge october earthquake has left tens of thousands dead and much of the region in ruins. i am left to wonder if the buildings in my photos are still standing, if the people are still alive.

the kashmiri people were very kind to me while i was there. i would like to give something back to them now in their time of need. all profits from this exhibition will be given to the unicef south asia earthquake appeal.

You can see the postcards as well as the photos from the exhibition online at my smugmug site.
