Kitagawa village
I've been working out among the rice paddies of rural Japan on the JET Program as a 'CIR' My home for almost 2 years now has been a small hamlet in eastern Shikoku called Kitagawa village .
Foreign population: 1
Currently...
With only a matter of weeks left at my current job, I'm getting ready for my next big trip - a cycle tour across Japan, top to bottom. The plan is to set off in August from the northern tip of Japan and just keep on pedaling south.

Silent kono Yoru
Attempts at "internationalisation" this week extended to passing around different versions of Silent Night written out in 10 different languages and having the kids to try and pick the country. Arabic and Zulu were my favourites, but there are even Klingon and Tolkien Elvish translations out there (link)! Some people have even more time on their hands than me...Click here to listen to the first verse of the Japanese version (Kiyoshi kono Yoru) in mp3 - sung by 1st grade kids.
きよしこのよる
Kiyoshi kono Yoru
きよしこの夜 星は光り
Kiyoshi kono yoru hoshi wa hikari
救いの御子は まぶねの中に
sukui nomiko wa mabune no naka ni
眠りたもう いとやすく
nemuri tamo-o. itoyasuku.

That was beautiful, I hope I can hear something similar over here this christmas...;-)
They seemed to struggle with that part about "round
young virgin" (I think that's the lyric) but apparently
so do western kids
Nice work Vegemite warrior,
Alex
